I am currently taking Nexium to control my GERD (gastric reflux) and repair the damage that's been done to my esophagus from having GERD for 12 years. I was diagnosed with esophageal inflammation and spasms a few months ago, which prompted the switch to Nexium from Prilosec. Since taking Nexium, my GERD has been much better and I hardly have any problems with my throat anymore.
I was on Prilosec for about 7 years to control my GERD. It worked really well until recently when I began to have esophageal spasms. (Esophageal spasms make you feel like you're choking when you're not and sometimes are accompanied by a sharp, stabbing pain, at least in my experiences.)
